Environmental Compliance

RoHS compliance

NAKAGAWA ELECTRONICS LIMITED (NKG) is committed to provide RoHS compliant products since 2004. Besides our internal XRF testing for heavy metals are we conducting regular testing at third parties and we work closely with our material suppliers in order to ensure full compliance to the regulations of the European Council.

All our products are compliant to the “DIRECTIVE 2011/65/EU” and its amendments. Majority of our products is fully compliant (also called 6/6 compliant) and are considered LEAD-FREE. A very few items fall under RoHS exemptions where usage of LEAD (Pb) cannot be avoided.

You can find information about this on the product pages here on our website, there is a column for environmental compliance on the pages introducing our products that gives you this information. Also our general product specification sheets have detailed info and of course our product specification sheets issued for each individual part number shows detailed info.

The exemptions that apply for a few of our product families are shown here below:

QUARTZ CRYSTAL UNITS in Ceramic Glass Seal packages
These crystal units sealed in a glass seal package contain LEAD (Pb) in the glass that is used to hermetically seal bottom and top ceramic of the enclosure (Package). The LEAD (Pb) contained in the glass falls under RoHS exemption 7(c)-I.

TUNING FORK CRYSTALS in resin mold SMD packages
The tuning fork crystal units in resin mold surface mount packages but also some thru-hole types with SMD formed leads are made by using a high melting point solder alloy that contains more than 85% of LEAD (Pb). For these products RoHS exemption 7(a) applies.

CERAMIC RESONATORS and FILTERS
All Ceramic Resonators and Filters utilizing the piezoelectric effect, for this LEAD (Pb) is needed in the ceramic resonator. The products falling therefore under RoHS exemption 7(c)-I for containing LEAD (Pb) in piezo electronic devices.

RoHS 2 / RoHS 3 compliance

All our products being compliant to the newly issued RoHS 2 requirement per “DIRECTIVE 2015/863” and do not contain any of the four additional phthalates as listed. This compliance may also called RoHS 10 compliant.

For products that are made by using a kind of plastic, resin or plastic like material (housing) we are testing for phthalates mandatory in our annual tests to confirm the compliance. For products having a metal enclosure there is no potential that phthalates can be contained so that we do not perform tests for these product families.

Please fell free to request our test reports.

In regards of RoHS’s CE marking directive for finished products, we do not have the CE mark on our product nor can we provide a compliance document for that since are not producing end-user products. But we are able to support the customer’s application for the compliance by providing the compliance documents for our components, RoHS and other test reports and material declaration sheets (MDS).

Halogen-Free

All our products are Halogen-Free per IEC 61249-2-21:2003 (Br<900ppm; Cl<900ppm; Total of halogens <1,500ppm).

REACH Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC)

For all our quartz crystal and quartz crystal based oscillator product families can we confirm that none contain Substances of Very High Concern as listed by REACH (status per 1st quarter 2018). Please request our CoC for the product of interest.

Ceramic Resonators and Filters using Lead Titanium Zirconium Oxide (CAS 12626-81-2; ECN 235-727-4) which is listed as an SVHC and being therefore not fully compliant to this regulation.

Phthalates (PH)

None of our products is being made by using phthalates so that these chemicals are not contained. For products that are made by using a kind of plastic, resin or plastic like material (housing) we are testing for phthalates mandatory in our annual tests to confirm the compliance. For products having a metal enclosure there is no potential that phthalates can be contained so that we do not perform tests for these product families.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

PVC is not being used in manufacturing of our products and is therefore not contained in any of our products. For products that are made by using a kind of plastic, resin or plastic like material (housing) conformance tests may made based on request. For products having a metal enclosure there is no potential that PVC can be contained so that we do not perform tests for these product families.

PFOS / PFOA

PFOS and PFOAs are not contained in any of our products nor being those chemicals used in manufacturing of our products. For products that are made by using a kind of plastic like or PTFE (Teflon) material we are testing it mandatory in our annual tests to confirm the compliance. For products having a metal enclosure there is no potential that phthalates can be contained so that we do not perform tests for these product families.

JIG Level A & B

The Joint Industry Guide JIG 101 is listing declarable substances which used to be split into Level A and B, this method is not being used in newer releases anymore. We are able to provide information on all substances as listed that may contained in our products. For most of our products do we use intensionally NICKEL (Ni) and as stated under other aspects we also have to use LEAD (Pb) in a few of our products.

For detailed information please request our material declaration sheets (MDS) or send us your form to be filled out.
